On May 14th 2020, Secretary Vito D. Imbasciani MD sent a letter to current employees and veterans and their spouses at the CalVet Barstow location. In this letter Dr. Imbasciani outlined the governors new plan to shut the doors on the facility within 2 years, displacing all of the Veterans to different homes throughout California. He cited evaluations made in the 2019 Veterans Homes of California | Master Plan as further proof for the reason for closure.

This move will also terminate all of the employees of this state run facility. CalVet Barstow is one of the highest ranked facilities in California, with a 5/5 star rating. Patients and employees alike, were shocked.
